The Kerala government has approved 74 additional tourist destinations for the establishment of beer and wine parlours as well as bars.
In a bid to boost tourism infrastructure, the state government extended the availability of alcoholic beverages at popular tourist spots like Ponmudi, Poovar and Kappil in Thiruvananthapuram, Ilaveezhapoonchira in Kottayam, along with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s constituency, Dharmadam in Kannur. These locations join the 14 existing major tourist destinations, such as Kovalam, where liquor licences have already been granted.
The state’s Tax Department issued the order, enabling liquor outlets in these areas, with licences granted by the Excise Department. Two-star hotels in these locations qualify for liquor licences, while only three-star hotels can open bars in other areas.
