Le Méridien New Delhi rings in Christmas season with cake mixing
Le Méridien New Delhi ushered in the Christmas spirit with its much-anticipated annual Cake Mixing Ceremony on November 14, when The Atrium was filled with aroma, colour and the unmistakable warmth of the season. The event, as part of La Fête by Le Méridien, the brand’s global festive programme, brought together guests, partners and friends to celebrate one of the season’s oldest and most joyful traditions.

This cake mixing ritual is cherished for its ability to engage all the senses, like the sight of colourful fruits and nuts, the lively sounds of laughter and music, and the fragrant blend of spices and spirits that fills the air. To set the tone for the ritual, The Atrium was adorned with festive decor and an elegant display of fruits, nuts and spices on a large table spelling "MERRY CHRISTMAS.”
Reflecting on the communal spirit behind the ceremony, Meena Bhatia, Vice President & General Manager of Le Méridien New Delhi, said, “Our Cake Mixing Ceremony is always a special moment because it brings people together in a way that feels genuine. The fragrances, the colours, the shared laughter; it all sets the tone for the celebrations that follow. Every year, we aim to honour the authenticity of this ritual while adding our own creative signature. It captures what we believe the season should be about: connection, warmth and experiences that guests remember.”

As the ceremony began, Chef Davinder Kumar, Vice President, F&B, Le Méridien New Delhi, explained that the act goes far beyond preparing ingredients. “Dry fruits and nuts represent abundance, spices add much-needed warmth to life, and alcohol is all about celebrating. It’s not merely mixing the dry fruits, spices and alcohol. It’s beyond that. It’s about wishing each other good fortune, warmth, happiness and good health,” he said.
On his countdown, large decanters of alcohol were poured over the rich medley of ingredients, soaking them, and guests, donning Christmas caps and sanitary gloves, began mixing clockwise, a gesture believed to invite good luck.
Highlighting the craftsmanship behind the tradition, Senior Executive Pastry Chef Vikas Shrivastava said, “It needs nearly a month to soak in all the spices and juices of the nuts and alcohol, after which the baking process starts.”
Following the lively mixing ritual, attendees were treated to an array of delectable snacks, desserts and beverages, extending the spirit of indulgence and camaraderie.
With the season now officially underway, Le Méridien New Delhi is preparing for its next major highlight: the annual Christmas Tree Lighting on December 5, known for its innovative and sustainability-led installations. The ceremony promises another moment of wonder, drawing the city together once more for a highlight of the holiday calendar.
