Maharashtra to mandate GPS locks for liquor transport

The Maharashtra government is set to mandate that all vehicles transporting liquor and spirits be fitted with GPS-enabled digital locks.

The new system will enable real-time tracking of liquor tankers, enhancing transparency and security in the state’s supply chain. The initiative aims to curb theft and prevent illegal diversions during transit. Until now, the state has relied on manual monitoring methods, such as physical escorts, particularly for interstate transport, with no digital surveillance in place.

Drawing inspiration from states like Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, which have already implemented similar systems, Maharashtra’s excise department seeks to modernise and secure liquor logistics through this tech-driven upgraded system.
