Mizoram explores fruit wine industry

Following the passage of the Mizoram Liquor Prohibition Amendment Bill, 2025, Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma met with the All India Wine Producers Association (AIWPA) to explore opportunities in local wine production. The amended law relaxes restrictions on wine-based beverages, aiming to promote fruit-based wine in the traditionally dry state.

AIWPA President Jagdish Holkar proposed the creation of a Mizoram Wine Board to spearhead industry development. CM Lalduhoma welcomed the idea, highlighting benefits for farmers and rural employment through the use of local fruits. Agriculture Minister PC Vanlalruata said the government will support premium wine production initiatives.
