The Madhya Pradesh government has banned liquor sales in 17 holy towns of the state as part of its phased approach towards prohibition.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav stated that in the first phase, liquor sales will be prohibited in Ujjain Municipal Corporation. Other towns include Datia, Panna, Mandla, Multai, Mandsaur, and Maihar municipal councils, as well as Omkareshwar, Maheshwar, Mandleshwar, Orchha, Chitrakoot, and Amarkantak municipal panchayats. Six gram panchayats are also part of the list.
“To ensure that the state moves towards a liquor ban gradually, we have decided that in the first phase, liquor shops would be shut down in municipal corporations, municipal councils and municipal panchayats of 17 cities. These shops will not be shifted anywhere else. It has been decided that these shops will be shut down permanently,” the CM said.
