Over 100 global leaders unite to promote responsible drinking
More than 100 leading global companies, including Walmart, SPAR International, Google, Meta, TikTok, DoorDash, UberEats, Pinterest, and Duty Free World Council, have united under the Global Standards Coalition (GSC), coordinated by the International Alliance for Responsible Drinking (IARD) to promote responsible alcohol consumption worldwide.
The newly released “Standards in Action” report showcases real-world examples of how companies across e-commerce, tech, retail, travel, hospitality, and the alcobev industry are implementing policies to prevent underage access to alcohol, support responsible marketing, and empower staff to make safer alcohol-related decisions.
“The scale of this coalition is unprecedented across tech, retail, and our industry. The largest players have come together to tackle harmful drinking,” said Alexandre Ricard, CEO of Pernod Ricard and Chairman of IARD’s Board. “The 100 members have made significant progress in establishing safeguards and raising standards. However, we know work remains to be done to deliver on our shared goal of reducing harmful drinking.”
“Though we come from different sectors, markets, and tiers of business, we share a common purpose: reducing harmful drinking and fostering a culture of moderation,” said Gavin Hattersley, Global CEO of Molson Coors and IARD’s Vice Chairperson. “We are proud to play our part in this groundbreaking coalition, and to help support industry-wide efforts to raise standards and drive positive change.”
With the addition of prominent digital platforms and self-regulatory bodies, the coalition now reaches millions of consumers globally, building responsible practices into supply chains, advertising strategies, and workplace cultures.
“Together, we are implementing practical measures with tangible impact,” said Julian Braithwaite, CEO and President of IARD. “This is the UN’s whole-of-society approach in action. The GSC 100 marks a crucial step in our collective journey, and the Standards in Action report details the strides already made. Together, we will keep moving forward and sustain momentum towards improved health outcomes globally.”
With this growing alliance, the GSC aims to drive long-term, meaningful change, urging more companies, governments, and civil society actors to join the movement and build a safer, more responsible drinking culture around the world.
