South Seas Distilleries, one of India’s oldest malt distilleries, is set to introduce Six Brothers Mahura in the UK, marking the first Mahura spirit distilled in India to be sold internationally. The spirit, made from Mahura flower (also known as Mahua), was banned under British colonial rule despite it being a traditional Indian drink.

The brand has developed two expressions: Six Brothers 1922 Resurrection Mahura, an ultra-premium, limited-edition release, and Six Brothers Small Batch Mahura, a double-distilled, platinum-filtered spirit, set for its UK debut this year.

To introduce Mahura to UK drinkers, the brand will organise The Six Brothers Mahura Masters, a cocktail competition featuring top London-based bartenders from venues like Scarfes Bar, Luum, Soma, and Vesper Bar at The Dorchester. Competitors will attend an exclusive tasting before crafting their signature serves.

Two winners will receive a trip to India where they will explore Mahura’s origins and witness the Mahura tree in bloom. The competition is set to take place in March at Scarfes Bar.
