India’s alcoholic beverage industry experienced a strong performance during the recent festive season, buoyed by robust demand in the premium spirits category. Industry associations are now forecasting a sales increase of 10–20 percent during the October- December quarter.

Industry leaders say the uptick is driven by higher consumer spending, a young and aspirational demographic and the growing popularity of luxury spirit brands in major cities.

The Confederation of Indian Alcoholic Beverage Companies (CIABC) expects this momentum to continue during Christmas and New Year. “Premium and luxury segments are the ones where we are seeing good growth, especially in metros, Tier I and II cities,” Anant S Iyer, Director General, CIABC told news agency PTI.

Similarly, the International Spirits and Wines Association of India (ISWAI), pointed to double-digit growth in the premium-spirits segment, aided by GST benefits.

Regionally, revenue reports indicated that NCR saw record sales, with Noida and Gurugram leading the way and Kolkata experienced a growth of around 15–16 percent during the Durga Puja period. In Telangana, excise authorities reported around ₹1,000 crore in revenue over two days of Dussehra, largely from IMFL sales.

Data shows that the domestic volumes of branded spirits reached 408 million cases in 2024, generating about ₹3.5 lakh crore in excise for FY24. Over the period from 2019 to 2024, the overall industry grew at a CAGR of 3.4 percent, while the premium segment enjoyed double-digit growth and saw its market share rise from approximately 42 percent to over 50 percent.
