(TASMAC) reported a 5.4 percent rise in revenue for the financial year ended March 31, 2025, reaching ₹48,344 crore, up from ₹45,855 crore in the previous year. This growth surpasses the 3.9 percent increase recorded in 2023-24, although it remains significantly below the 22 percent surge witnessed in 2022-23.
According to the Home, Prohibition and Excise Department’s policy note for 2025-26, Value Added Tax (VAT) from liquor sales contributed ₹37,324 crore, while Excise duty accounted for ₹11,020 crore. These figures are provisional and ‘subject to reconciliation.’
TASMAC’s revenue has grown by nearly ₹12,000 crore over the past three years, rising from ₹36,051 crore in 2021-22 to ₹44,121 crore in 2022–23, the policy note, presented by Electricity, Prohibition and Excise Minister V Senthil Balaji in the Assembly on Tuesday, revealed.
On the issue of illicit liquor, the policy note emphasised the state government’s firm commitment to curbing the distillation, sale, and transportation of illicit liquor, along with tackling the sale of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
“The EB-CID along with the Commissionerate of Prohibition and Excise is dedicated to ensure the effective implementation of the State’s Prohibition and Excise Policy,” it added.
TASMAC operates through 38 district offices and 43 Indian Made Foreign Spirits (IMFS) depots, managing 4,787 retail vending shops and 2,362 bars attached to them. The corporation offers 250 local and other state brands of liquor, including 185 local liquor brands, 43 local beer brands, and three local wine labels. Additionally, it stocks six other state liquor brands, five other state beer brands, and eight other state wine brands, states the policy.
Furthermore, TASMAC sells 551 imported liquor brands, including 26 brands of beer and 223 wine labels, through its elite F11 licensed outlets located in malls.
The corporation is also mulling expanding its bottle buy-back scheme across the state. Originally launched in the Nilgiris district on May 15, 2022 and later extended to nine other districts, the initiative offers consumers a ₹10 refund for returning empty liquor bottles, collected in addition to the MRP.
