Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy held a review meeting with the Excise Department’s officials to streamline liquor supply and beer pricing in the state. He directed the officials to adopt a transparent mechanism for selecting companies to supply liquor and emphasised the need for a simplified trade policy for companies already supplying liquor to the Telangana State Beverages Corporation Limited (TGBCL).
The CM instructed the issuance of a notification to invite applications from new companies within a month, mandating brand-name-based applications with quality and capacity checks.
Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka, Excise Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari, and senior officials participated in the meeting.
Addressing pressure from the United Breweries Limited for a 33.1% beer price hike, the CM affirmed the government would not yield and instructed officials to compare prices with neighbouring states. A decision will follow the Price Fixation Committee’s report, chaired by a retired High Court judge.
CM Reddy also ordered systematic clearance of dues inherited from the previous government, ensuring timely payments to the Excise Department over the past year.
