The Macallan celebrates 200 years with TIME:SPACE-Mastery

The Macallan, a name etched into the annals of Scotch royalty, marked its 200th anniversary with an exclusive showcase of its oldest and most ambitious release to date — TIME:SPACE-Mastery, an 84-year-old single malt Scotch distilled in 1940.

The extraordinary celebration held on June 17 at Upper HSE by Tivoli in Delhi’s Chhatarpur brought together whisky collectors, connoisseurs, and industry professionals under a canopy of amber light and deep red ambiance.

Presented by Madhu Rajigani, The Macallan's Brand Ambassador for India, the TIME:SPACE-Mastery is a vatting of 14 rare casks, including European and American oak sherry butts, bourbon barrels, and refill casks, showcasing the brand’s signature wood-led maturation philosophy.

Encased in a futuristic halo decanter and sheathed in 200 origami spikes, the design not only represented the brand’s bicentennial but also its commitment to nature’s instinct to guard the rare and precious.

With an ABV of 43.6 percent, the vintage offered a sensory journey with tasting notes of dried fruits, orange marmalade, honeycomb, and warming spices like ginger and cinnamon, balanced with caramelised pineapple, vanilla, dark chocolate, and coffee.

“Our whisky mastery team pushed the boundary and was on a relentless pursuit in creating an expression that can showcase the influence of our exceptional oak cask, cooperages, bordeaux casks and the sherry seasoning that the Macallan is known for, along with having the Macallan’s distinctive characteristics in a single bottle, i.e., the Macallan-Time: Space-Mastery,” shared Madhu while honouring the craftsmanship that went behind its making.

The event’s setting mirrored the aesthetic of the release, with a dining hall, bathed in Macallan’s signature red, echoing the visual cues of the limited edition. Tablescapes inspired by nature featured oak vessels, origami flowers, and playful hedgehog figurines, which were a nod to The Macallan Estate’s wild guardians.

The culinary experience was curated to match the whisky’s depth and elegance. The four-course menu started with a vibrant and fresh mango and avocado salad dressed in toasted sesame, Asian chilli and ginger, which was followed by a pasta course in vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. While the vegetarian burrata ravioli came soaked in cherry tomato coulis, the chicken-goat cheese and onion ravioli came soaked in sage butter.

The mains continued the sensory crescendo.  While vegetarians were treated to a grits-roasted vegetable timbale with romesco sauce, a choice of lamb chops with Bordeaux jus and pan-seared chicken with fig and brandy jus was offered to those who opted for the non-veg. The exquisite dinner wrapped up with delicate layers of gluten-free orange-almond cake with mascarpone. For chocophiles, a berry trio loaded with chocolate-berry cake, raspberry tart, and berry cream was the perfect indulgence.

Each dish was thoughtfully paired with a dram of TIME:SPACE-Mastery or Macallan signature cocktails, including a Maple Old Fashioned with Double Cask 12 Year Old and a butterfly pea flower cocktail that dazzled both palate and eye.

As the evening faded into night, it became clear that at The Macallan, time is not counted in years but in experiences. And this celebration was one for the ages.
